So, Who Even is “Nick ZH”?
Hi, my name’s Nikolay Zhurov, or Nick ZH. I currently live in Switzerland, and I work as a full-time professional freelancer. As a freelancer I am quite flexible with the sort of work that I do, but my main activity is as a narrator and sound engineer. I also edit and localise English texts, translate (from French, Russian, and Japanese into English), and produce written content, as well as the occasional tutoring.
I’ve been a freelancer since 2018, coming up on 5 years as of writing this blog post, and I have often been told that the path I’ve followed to get where I am today has been, “weird”.
And to be fair, it has been weird. Finishing up high school 5 years after dropping out while working freelance full-time with the goal of going to university in Japan (in Japanese) — not exactly what I would call the traditional approach. But, this weird, wild ride so far has taught me a lot, and that is more or less the purpose of this blog. I want to share some of my experiences. Of working as a freelancer and starting from scratch. Of pursuing academia after focusing on professional development. Of personal projects I’ve worked on or am working on. Of bloopers and funny moments. And of anything interesting that comes up that I wanted to put down in writing, and maybe share with my friends and family.
